Description

As the summer comes to a close, we wanted to wrap up with some of the finest musicians that Indy has to offer. From the 317 is a project produced by IJF Artistic Director Rob Dixon to highlight the best of the best of Indy's jazz solo artists. These artists have helped define the "Naptown Sound" that represents our fair city. This show features Josh Kaufman, Bashiri Asad, Marrialle Sellars, and Rusty Redenbacher. Tickets are $25 in advance and are also available in a full series package (entrance to all three shows) for $20 (all three shows for $60). In the event of inclement weather on the day of the show, we will alert you of the cancellation. The "rain date" for this show is Wednesday, August 17th. FAQ'S What can I bring with me (coolers, chairs, etc.)? - Guests are welcome to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets, however coolers/outside food and drink will not be permitted. No weapons of any kind are allowed on the premises. Will there be food and drink available? - Beer, wine, water, and soft drinks will be available for purchase as well as snack food (chips, cookies, etc.) Where do I park? - There is limited parking available outside of the venue, but we recommend utilizing street parking off of Ferguson St or Cornell Ave. Will there be chairs available? - A small amount of chairs will be provided in front of the stage - seating is on a first come, first serve basis. If it rains, is the show still on? - As much of a believer as we are in "the show must go on," our main concern is your safety. Our staff will make a judgement call prior to the event and will make every effort to alert you if it is indeed cancelled via email and social media. We have rain dates scheduled (Wednesday, June 22 for this event) for each show and all previously purchased tickets will be honored. ------ Josh Kaufman’s music has an emotional directness and intensity that is rivaled by few people on the planet. His music has been described as a mash-up of pop, rock, folk, and jazz with an underlying soul base. With his four-octave range, distinctive falsetto, and incredible guitar playing Kaufman has wowed live audiences for years. In 2014, on a whim, he went to a blind audition for the TV show The Voice, was selected to be on the show, and -- to make a long story short-- won the whole competition. Season 6, The Voice winner, you can Google it and see the photos with Usher. Josh knows that there is still a place for musicians who are able to connect with other humans deeply through playing and writing and singing songs. He continues to write and release his own unique blend of soul, jazz, rock, funk, folk, that can only be described as Josh Kaufman. Bashiri Asad is the “Everyday Soul Singer", and he will remind you that feeling what you feel, in your soul, is just fine. Hailing from Indianapolis, Bashiri Asad has come to defines his sound as “Indy-Soul”. From shoo-wop style singing groups and classical vocal training, to performances local and abroad, his various experiences have shaped his voice into the soul-stirring entity it is known as today. Echoes of the influences of Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Sam Cooke, and Otis Redding weave through his presentation, but his sound is unmistakably his own. Marrialle Sellars has a unique and powerful sound that fills the room with warmth and passion. She is 25 years old, born and raised in Indianapolis, and has been performing since she was 12 years old. She’s a former American Idol Season 13 contestant, finishing in the Top 20 and the winner of the 2012 Carmel Fest in Carmel, IN. She has recently finished and published an original album called Naked Acoustic EP on Spotify and Original Music Video on YouTube. She has many other projects to come. In Rusty Redenbacher’s two-decade plus run of the Indy music scene, he has successfully captured the hearts of a progressive arts community. His multiple releases with rock collectives Birdmen of Alcatraz and Lazarus, hip-hop groups The Mudkids and Tornado Alley and more have shown the local, regional, and national music scene the extreme versatility and dexterity it takes to be embraced by not only his peers but music lovers of all shapes, sizes, and cross-genre backgrounds.
