Description

About "Sa Amin" (Our Place): Filipino community activists and multigenerational families in San Francisco’s South of Market claim a right to the city as they battle displacement caused by urban renewal, real estate speculation and tech booms, and in doing so sustain the cultural heart of the Filipino-American community. "Sa Amin" (Our Place) is co-directed by Dyan Ruiz and Nix Guirre, produced by [people. power. media], and executive produced by SF Urban Film Fest. Because of the co-directors' deep roots in the SoMa activist and Filipino cultural communities, they were able to access interviews of revered long-standing community leaders who led the struggles in the 1970s including MC Canlas, Tony Grafilo, Jeanny Battalones, and Bob Ilumin. These are the voices we are privileged to hear from in "Sa Amin". Please join us! About our crowdfunding campaign: SF Urban Film Fest has launched a crowdfunding campaign because this important story needs to be shared not only with the Filipino community, but with everyone so that it rightfully becomes part of the story of San Francisco. Our goal is to raise $20,000 by June 26. In service of community, the independent filmmakers have dedicated themselves to this project for 3 years with a minimal budget, amidst a pandemic and serious medical challenges. We need to raise funds to compensate our team adequately and to pay for post-production so that the film can reach wider audiences via film festivals and television. Contribute to our Support Our Story campaign to help sustain the cultural heart of the Filipino-American community. https://supportourstory.com/sa-amin-our-place
