DAVENPORT, FL — A Davenport man faces charges after deputies said he drove away when he hit a man on US Highway 27.
David Syking Street, Jr., 24, has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death, according to deputies.
On Friday morning, shortly after 12:50, Polk County Sheriff's Office deputies went to the crash incident and saw a man injured in the median near Polo Park Boulevard.
Polk County Fire Rescue workers pronounced the 41-year-old man of Clermont dead, a news release said.
Deputies said the man — whose name police will not release — had been walking along the highway when Street hit him.
Street then drove into Lake County where deputies there said he didn't stop at a stop sign, so they tried to pull him over. Street then sped away from deputies and made it to his Davenport house.
Later, deputies found Street at his house, authorities said.
Deputies said Street confessed that he did hit the man and kept driving after he hit him.
Deputies took Street to the Polk County Jail where he is being held with no bond, according to arrest records.
