Press release from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office: June 17, 2022 Jefferson County, CO. – At 8:10 a.m. on June 17, 2022, JeffCom dispatchers received a 911 call from a hiker who was calling from a trail near the 3600 block of S. Oak Way. The caller reported that he was actively witnessing two other hikers being held at gunpoint by an adult male. The caller stayed on the phone with dispatchers and provided updated information until deputies arrived on scene a couple of minutes later. Deputies located the two victims and learned that the suspect was still at-large in the area. Deputies located the suspect a short distance away and confronted him at gunpoint. The suspect failed to comply with commands from the deputies and pulled a weapon, later determined to be a stun gun, from his waistband and point it at the deputies. One of the deputies fired a shot from his firearm, missing the suspect. A second deputy deployed his Taser at the suspect – hitting him. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital after complaining of injuries from the Taser. The suspect has been identified as Kerry Endsley (DOB 091948). The two victims were not injured during the course of the kidnapping and were taken to the Sheriff's Office to be interviewed. As a result of those interviews, investigators learned that the husband and wife were hiking when they came across a male who was kneeling down, tying his shoe. As they walked passed him, he confronted them with a handgun. The suspect ordered the female to the ground and put a nylon leash around her neck. The suspect then ordered both victims to come with him. At one point, the male victim was able to take the handgun away from the suspect. The two victims then fled the immediate area and were contacted by law enforcement.
