Press release from Greater Louisville, Inc.: June 16, 2022 On Tuesday, GLI hosted a record crowd of 230 local business and community leaders for the quarterly Capitol Connection presented by Norton Healthcare featuring the two major party candidates running for Mayor of Louisville. During a discussion moderated by Mark Vanderhoff of WLKY, Mayor Bill Dieruf and Craig Greenberg met for the first time following the May primaries to answer questions related to the business community's top priorities including public safety and economic development. As a nonpartisan organization, GLI does not support or endorse candidates. GLI president and CEO, Sarah Davasher-Wisdom, explained that this election is especially important because it is the first time in more than a decade that Louisville will usher in a new mayor. The purpose of the event was for GLI investors to learn about the candidates' positions on key issues impacting our community. GLI thanks Local Leaders, retiring Councilmembers In keeping with the event's focus on local issues, GLI recognized several Metro Councilmembers for their service on the Metro Council and for legislative leadership on a critical workforce issue affecting the Greater Louisville community. GLI presented the inaugural Local Leader Award to Councilwoman Cassie Chambers Armstrong and Councilman Jecorey Arthur for their sponsorship of legislation that made changes to Louisville's Land Development Code and loosened restrictions on childcare zoning. The ordinance, which passed the Metro Council unanimously earlier this year, allows child care facilities to be located closer to where families live and work. These changes will help ease the burden on childcare providers and increase accessibility for working families. In addition to a new Mayoral Administration in Louisville, there are several Metro Councilmembers retiring at the end of their term this year, leaving vacancies in their district. GLI recognized the years of service and leadership to our city for the following councilmembers: Councilwoman Jessica Green, District 1; Councilman Bill Hollander, District 9; Councilman Kevin Triplett, District 15; Councilwoman Nicole George, District 21; Councilman James Peden, District 23.
