Press release from the City of Kansas City:
June 15, 2022
Administrative offices for the City of Kansas City will be closed on Monday, June 20, in observance of the Juneteenth holiday. Trash, recycling and bulky-item collection will be affected.
The holiday schedule means these pickups will be delayed by a day, so if your normal trash and recycling day is Monday, it will be picked up on Tuesday. If you have a bulky-item appointment for Monday, it will be moved to Tuesday.
Juneteenth is a federal holiday that commemorates the Emancipation Proclamation in the U.S. President Abraham Lincoln issued the proclamation to free enslaved African Americans in secessionist states on January 1, 1863, but enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, would not learn of their freedom until two years later.
