Almost danceable, improvising on original songs, soul, funk, jazz-like

Upright/electric bass player looking for other musicians inspired by soul, funk, jazz kinda music that if not danceable, at least makes for some good head bobbing. I'd prefer playing and improvising some original tunes written together, and influenced by the styles of The Meters, James Brown, MMW etc. I didn't go to music school or grow up in a musical family. I'm not smart enough or interested to play standards with complex harmonies. Just looking for people decent enough with their instrument to put a tune together and make it groove. I have a practice space in NE if needed. (Musicians subtle enough to turn down their volume to hear other players would be a bonus)
