Job Summary: The Veneer Repair/Sander position uses a handheld belt sander to remove excess glue off of composed veneer sheets. Assists in veneer pair-up, as assigned. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Sands for veneer lines, using a handheld belt sander. • Uses basic computer skills to scan tickets and add regrade notes. • Performs cleaning duties, such as sweeping and moving rolling cars weighing 75-100 lbs. to allow forklift access. • Assists Veneer Pair-up position, as assigned: 1. Slides and flips wide and long veneer panels to position for inspection and repair. 2. Inspects the face and back of skins of specified wood type/species, per the customer order, and determines, by appearance, the appropriate pairing of panels. 3. Makes necessary repairs for imperfections/defects/discolorations. 4. Confirms the order is complete per the customer’s specifications and prints/attaches tickets to the finished customer order. • Other duties, as assigned. Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age. ENTRY LEVEL POSITION; WE WILL TRAIN. Prior manufacturing (production; assembly, etc.) and/or experience sanding, working with wood products is a plus. Ability to read/understand tickets, work orders, operation instructions and safety rules written in English. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Ability to understand the operation of the sanding tool and make appropriate adjustments. Ability to follow all standard work procedures in a safe and efficient manner and wear assigned PPE. Assist with Veneer Pair Up position, which requires: Ability to learn wood grains and species (we will train). Ability to inspect wood panels and identify imperfections, discoloration, and any other defects (we will train). Ability to slide and flip large (50” x 99”) veneer skins on a regular basis. Ability to stand for duration of work shift (8 to 10 hours) Ability to work cooperatively and productively as part of a team. Available to work overtime, including on Saturdays. Work Environment and Physical Requirements: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, exhaust fumes and airborne dust/particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to varying levels of cold and heat, depending on season. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Personal protective equipment may be assigned, including ear and eye protection. The employee is required to stand for long periods of time and regularly walk. Requires ability to push loaded rolling carts up to 100 lbs. on cement floor and the ability to slide and flip wide and long (50” x 99”) veneer panels on a table. Ability to learn and successfully distinguish wood imperfections, discoloration, and other defects, according to the type of wood grain and species.
