Dixwell Church celebrates 202 years of continuous service to God and community. Founded in New Haven as the African Ecclesiastical Society, and in 1820, chartered as the Temple Street Church, Dixwell Church has championed civil rights and justice from the landmark 1839 Amistad Case to present day issues.
Its history is its legacy and its call to continuance is powered by a multitude of African American firsts and trailblazers who continue to lead and contribute to world betterment. The congregation is diverse, collaborative and multi-generational.
Reverend Dr. Frederick J. Streets, former Yale University Chaplain, international trauma care specialist, theologian and Yale Divinity School professor, is Senior Pastor.
