Glenn Kappelman (1922-2004) led an extraordinary life. A WWII veteran known for the images he secretly took during the war, Kappelman later helped achieve the Lawrence Fair Housing Ordinance of 1967, supported social services such as the Women's Transitional Care Facility (today known as the Willow Domestic Violence Center), and worked with the Douglas County Historical Society as the city celebrated its centennial.
Join us as we celebrate Glenn Kappelman's life and legacy. Speakers will talk about Mr. Kappelman and introduce his photographic collection housed at the Spencer Research Library. We'll also screen a short selection from the documentary Through My Sights: A Gunner's View of World War II, about Mr. Kappelman's war service. Light refreshments will be available.
