Description
Hey Friends! We're gathering on the Solstice, just like we humans have for thousands of years on every part of the planet. It is a day to celebrate ourselves, our communities, and the natural beauty and power that sustain us. On the solstice, the sun sets precisely between two of the Great Pyramids in Egypt. Native Americans built the ancient Bighorn medicine wheel on a 9,000 foot hilltop in Wyoming to align with the summer solstice. The Vikings celebrated Midsommer, the Incas celebrated the Qhapaq Raymi during the Summer Solstice of the south, and the Chinese have celebrated a summer festival on the solstice for millennia. All across the world, we honor this day. So come take a little break from modern life to remember how small and wonderful we are, how powerful the universe is, and how magical it all was, is, and will forever be. We will gather at 5:15 am to watch Sol rise over the San Francisco Bay from atop Bernal Hill. Then we will regather at 8:00 pm at a hidden little beach spot to watch Sol dip into the Pacific Ocean, and then sit around a bonfire to honor the darkness of the universe. For on the eve of June 21, our nights will begin to lengthen, and our days begin to shorten, until Dec. 21, when on our darkest day, the Winter Solstice sends us back to the path of expanding light.
