MILWAUKEE, WI — The Milwaukee Fire Department ended its search on Thursday for two men who who were swept away in a drainage ditch after they went in after a 10-year-old boy who fell in Monday, fire officials said. Fire crews recovered the bodies of two men in their 30s who had gone into the water near S. 27th Street and W. Loomis Road on Monday, Milwaukee Fire Chief Aaron Lipski said at a news conference. The fire department ended its search after three days when it found the bodies in the Kinnickinnic River. The first body was seen by a citizen and recovered by the fire department near S. Hilbert Street on Thursday morning, officials said. The Milwaukee Police Department Harbor Patrol Unit pulled the second body from near S. 1st Street and Becher Street. Milwaukee fire crews were searching for two men in their 30s who went in after a 10-year-old boy was swept away by torrential rain in a drainage canal Monday. The boy's body was found in the Kinnickinnic River on Tuesday. "We badly, badly want to bring these two gentlemen home," Milwaukee Fire Chief Aaron Lipski said Wednesday at a news conference. Searchers moved between where the three people fell into the water near S. 27th Street and W. Loomis Road to where the drainage empties into the Kinnickinnic River. The U.S. Coast Guard, Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District and the Milwaukee Police Department helped in the search, Lipski said. Citizens who wanted to help were advised to take caution.
