STAMFORD, CT — After investigating reports of gang activity in a Stamford park, police said they arrested two men on Tuesday who were in possession of loaded guns. Capt. Richard Conklin of the Stamford Police Department said the department's narcotics and organized crime squad recently received information of gang activity taking place in Carwin Park on Spruce Street. Surveillance was set up on Tuesday, and at around 3:30 p.m., police approached a man who was later identified as Larry Donald, 26, of Stamford, Conklin said. Officers found Donald in possession of a loaded semi-automatic handgun, Conklin said. Donald was also carrying a red bandana, an item Conklin said is a sign of affiliation with the Bloods gang. Donald was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of ammunition and possession of a high capacity magazine. Another man, Tre Anthony Brown, 27, of Norwalk, was also arrested, Conklin said. Police searched Brown's backpack and found a large, high capacity magazine, Conklin said, noting that officers then found a loaded handgun in Brown's waistband, along with a red bandana. Brown was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of ammunition, possession of a high capacity magazine, altering the serial number of a firearm and violation of conditions of release. Both men were issued $100,000 bonds, and they're scheduled to appear in court June 28, Conklin said. Conklin praised officers for their investigation, and said the situation was dangerous. "On such a nice day, the park is crowded with a lot of people from the community out there enjoying the nice weather, and here we have two illegal firearms loaded, both carrying high capacity magazines, and it's just a recipe for problems," Conklin said. Historically, Conklin said gangs in Stamford have been territorial to different sections of the city. Recently, the department has seen a shift, with more people looking to affiliate with either the Bloods or Crips. "This is something we'll have to pay attention to," Conklin said.
