Press release from the Albany County Government: June 15, 2022 The Albany County Redistricting Commission (ACRC) and the Majority Minority District Redistricting Subcommittee (MMD) announced today that they have approved and released for public comment a "final draft" map of the 39 Albany County Legislative Districts. The map, and other information on the Commission and the MMD, is available on the Commission website. The ACRC and the MMD were created by Albany County Local Law 8 of 2019. The purpose of the ACRC is to propose a new Albany County Legislature district map that will support elections of the Albany County Legislature for the next ten years. The separate MMD is tasked with configuring the majority minority legislative districts and recommending such to the ACRC. The nine-member ACRC and the seven-member MMD have held public hearings and engaged, with the assistance of legal counsel and consultants, in redrawing the district lines of the 39 districts of the Albany County Legislature. The ACRC and the MMD will hold a joint public hearing on June 30, 2022, at 5:00 pm. The hearing will be held in the Cahill Room of the Harold L. Joyce Albany County Office Building, 112 State Street, Albany, NY 12207. The hearing will also be livestreamed on the Commission's YouTube channel and members of the public wishing to speak at the hearing may do so in person or on Zoom. Members of the public are encouraged to review the map posted on the Commission website. Those wishing to comment but not wishing to speak at the hearing may submit comments by email to [email protected] and [email protected]. In developing the "final draft" map that has just been released, the ACRC and the MMD have carefully considered the comments and draft maps that have been submitted to them by members of the public. Any further comments or draft maps received prior to the conclusion of the hearing on June 30th will be considered by the MMD and the ACRC, and could result in changes being made to the map released today. The Commission then intends to submit its final report and proposed map to the Albany County Legislature for its review and recommended adoption for use in the 2023 election. As mentioned above, public comments on the "final draft" map will be accepted until the close of the June 30th public hearing. The hearing format will be a hybrid with persons wishing to comment in person being able to do so in downtown Albany, while those wishing to comment on Zoom will also be able to do so.
