Description

Press release from the City of Ames: June 15, 2022 The City of Ames is working with the National Weather Service (NWS) to monitor local stream flow predictions and prepare for any low-level flooding. Heavy rainfall early Wednesday morning, combined with saturated ground, has created conditions for high water levels in area waterways. The City is modeling river crest levels for both the Skunk River and Ioway Creek. Potential impacts include the area along SE 16th Street and South Dayton Avenue. Flooding has also impacted some low-lying areas within Brookside Park. Flooding is always a risk during times of significant rainfall. Residents should be prepared to move valuables, including vehicles, to higher ground. The most up-to-date information is available through the City of Ames website at www.cityofames.org. The link in the red banner at the top of the website will take you to the Flood Watch page, which includes monitoring information on the status of gauges along the Skunk River and Ioway Creek. Another tool is going directly to the Iowa Flood Information System at http://ifis.iowafloodcenter.org/ifis/en/. Residents should monitor local media for updates. Those living in flood-prone areas should always have an up-to-date plan for maintaining their safety in the event of a flood. This press release was produced by the City of Ames.
