MURRIETA, CA — A couple traveling with their four children on Interstate 15 this week in Murrieta were hauling more than just kids, according to a news release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. On Wednesday, border patrol agents assigned to Murrieta's Newton Azrak Border Patrol Station seized 26.9 pounds of methamphetamine found hidden in three of the children's booster seats, the federal agency reported. The family's vehicle was pulled over by agents on northbound I-15, just north of the border patrol station, according to the news release. It's unclear what prompted the traffic stop but agents used a K-9 team to search the vehicle, which turned up $60,000 worth of methamphetamine stashed in the booster seats, according to the release. The driver, a U.S. citizen whose identity was not disclosed, was arrested and turned over with the narcotics to the Inland Crackdown Allied Taskforce for prosecution. The mother and children were released. The vehicle was seized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
