PLAINFIELD, IL — Buy lemonade and help a good cause. That's the goal of Aubrey's LemonAid Stand, which will be held Saturday afternoon outside Makery Studios in Plainfield.
All proceeds raised from the lemonade stand, taking place from noon to 3 p.m. at 13717 Route 30, will benefit Tom Hernandez, Plainfield School District 202's director of community relations, and his family, according to the event flyer.
Hernandez said at the beginning of June that he was diagnosed with astrocytoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer from tumors that attack the astrocytes. He has since had surgery and begun chemotherapy, and his doctors told him so far there are no signs of the tumors shrinking or growing, he wrote in a post published on Caring Bridge.
"Thank you to everyone who has already shown me tremendous love, support, and grace," he wrote. "If only the rest of the world were as wonderful as all of you, this challenge would be a little easier to confront."
