NEWTOWN - After a two year absence, the Newtown Street Fair with Flair is back! And it's got a brand new feel. "Newtown Welcome Day," presented by the Law Offices of Karen Ann Ulmer and sponsored by the Newtown Business Association, will unfold along Sycamore Street between Jefferson Street and Durham Road on Sunday, June 26 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. "Welcome Day is a perfect way to support your local businesses. It's also a great way to discover and rediscover what Newtown has to offer," said Fred Poritsky of FZP Digital, who is co-chairing the event with Kelsey Jordan of KGD Films. At the heart of it all will be more than 100 artists, crafters and local business vendors who will be setting up shop along Sycamore. Throughout the day, visitors will also find lots of fun activities to do, tasty treats from local eateries and two stages of live, nonstop entertainment. This year's entertainment schedule will showcase everything from mariachi music to rock n roll with featured appearances by a local Chinese dance group, fencers, Action Karate, and much more. "We have great entertainment," said Poritsky. "For the most part it's all professional entertainers known throughout the Philadelphia area." Appearing on the event stages, located in front of the Sycamore Grill and in front of Weedman at Sycamore and Jefferson will be Courtney Colette & Stan Stoller, the Back Porch Jug Band, Entheos, Curt Lippe, Claudia Pellegrini, Avi Wisnia, Jill Salkin, Mark Sherman and many more. Each entertainment stage will be surrounded by a seating area where Newtown Welcome Day visitors can relax with friends and family and enjoy lunch, dinner or snacks, said Poritsky. New this year will be a food court spotlighting Sycamore Street eateries, including Newtown Pizza, La Stalla Market, the Green Parrot, Meglio, Jules Thin Crust, Zoe's Kitchen, Sycamore Street Grill and Love Bird. Adding to the mix will be Harvest Seasonal Grill, Best Darn Kettle Korn, Playa Bowls, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Passanante's Home Food Services along with several food trucks, including Tim's Barbecue. The biggest change this year will be in the footprint of the festival. Previous Welcome Days had stretched from Durham to Washington. This year the committee decided to concentrate the event in a smaller area where the majority of the street's local businesses are located. While the footprint is smaller, Poritsky said the hope is that the impact will be greater on the stores and businesses that call Sycamore Street home. "We wanted to make a bigger impact on the retailers since they have been hurt by COVID. Let's see if it makes a difference," he said. "We also made an effort to include State Street in Newtown Borough," he added. "So for the first time in a long time we have several State Street businesses participating in Welcome Day with local musicians, a selfies booth, free lemonade, samples from local restaurants and sidewalk sales." Among the new additions this year will be a professional balloon artist who will wow visitors with his unbelievable creations. "We are also going to have a Cornhole game. And all the money that's collected is going to a charity that supports Ukrainian relief," said Poritsky. "You can sign up that day to have a team in the tournament." Look for the Cornhole game on Sycamore Street in the area of Jules Thin Crust Pizza. "It's going to be a beautiful day for families to spend together," said Poritsky. "We have a lot to offer in Newtown. It's all about the 18940. It's all about local - shopping local, buying local and keeping it local."
