MAPLE GROVE, MN — The Maple Grove High school baseball team was only a few outs away from playing in Friday night's Class AAAA state title game but finished the tournament in fourth place.
Maple Grove took down St. Louis Park 5-2 on Tuesday at CHS Field in St. Paul to reach the semifinal round, where the team lost 7-5 to Farmington across two days.
The Crimson jumped out to an early 5-0 lead over Farmington on Thursday, after the game was postponed Wednesday due to rain and lightning while it was still scoreless in the second inning.
Maple Grove Junior Wins 2 Titles At State Track And Field Meet
Farmington scored three times in the fourth inning to cut into Maple Grove's lead before a grand slam in the sixth inning put Farmington ahead, according to the Minnesota State High School League.
The grand slam by No. 9 batter Luke Walton give Farmington team a 7-5 lead, a lead that Maple Grove could not erase.

The Crimson's semifinal loss to Farmington dropped the team into the third-place game against Chanhassen on Thursday evening at CHS Field, where they lost 6-3. Maple Grove held a 3-2 lead at the start of the fifth inning but fell behind after three Chanhassen players scored on two singles, according to the MSHSL.
Maple Grove finished the 2022 season with a 20-6 record, the MSHSL said.
