Midland School, a distinctive, co-educational boarding school for grades 9-12, is seeking an enthusiastic and hardworking person to join our educational community and organic farm as a part-time farm assistant (approx. 32 hours/week with the potential for some seasonal variation.) Ideally the candidate would have organic farming experience, but must be passionate about organic farming and willing to engage with our community of employee residents and high school students. The position is physically demanding, particularly during the summer months. The primary duties are listed below and the candidate must possess the minimum qualifications shown below. The position reports directly to our Farm Manager and Educator. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Assist in all aspects of organic farming seeding, planting, weeding, bed prep, cultivation, pruning, produce harvesting, and post harvest work. Perform basic farm and orchard care. Assist in the property clean-up and maintenance of the farm and garden area including ensuring the areas are free of safety hazards. Assist with proper function and maintenance of all farm support mechanisms and equipment including water, power and machinery. Support Farm Manager on coordinating with the Kitchen Manager on a regular basis regarding the kitchen’s produce needs and availability of farm produce. Manage delivery or ensure student delivery of produce to the kitchen on a timely basis for meal preparation. Work alongside and educate student workers. Minimum Qualifications: Hard working in a physically demanding position. Well-organized and self-motivated. Enthusiasm for organic farming and working with teenagers. Willingness to follow directions and be flexible with changing farm needs. Ability to work as a team and collaborate with others. Possess a positive attitude, have high energy and be self-directed. Pass criminal and driving background tests. Health clearance for TB screening & vaccinations. Additional Desired Qualifications: Prior experience working on an organic farm.
