OCEANSIDE, NY —A man was arrested overnight Friday for assaulting a police officer in Oceanside. Julian Lynch, 28, of Brooklyn, got into a verbal altercation with a 7-Eleven worker on Merrick Road, police said. That escalated to Lynch throwing several punches at the victim's eye, causing the clerk to fall to the ground, detectives said. A short time later, Lynch entered a CVS on Merrick Road, where he got into another verbal exchange with a worker, police said. Officers arrived at the CVS to place Lynch under arrest, but he got into a physical struggle, striking an officer in the eye. Lynch and the officer were taken to an area hospital, as was the 7-Eleven employee. Lynch was charged with second-degree and third-degree assault, attempted robbery, menacing, criminal trespassing and resisting arrest. An investigation by police revealed that Lynch is also responsible for criminal mischief at two Baldwin shops on June 17: Complete Automotive and Jiffy Lube, both located on Merrick Road. Several counts of criminal mischief were tacked on to the arraignment that is scheduled for Saturday in Hempstead, according to police.
