Description

How being mindful keeps you focused on what matters Intentions are the foundation of a mindfulness practice because they give us motivation to continue practicing as well as a purpose behind our practice. There is no better time to set meaningful intentions as we come into the New Year with hopes of a positive future. The main intention behind a mindfulness practice is to become more aware of our own selves so that we develop an understanding of what makes us suffer and how that affects how we show up in the world. We use this understanding to help heal ourselves and in turn heal the world around us. Compassion is generated by a deep understanding of our own suffering which helps us to understand the suffering of others better. Once we understand that those who hurt us are also deeply hurting, we can't help but feel compassion for them and a desire to help them heal. We not only generate love and compassion for those that we love and care about but for the whole world, all living beings. We know that we cannot heal without the healing of the world around us. So when we practice to heal ourselves we are also practicing to heal the world. A good way to stay grounded in loving kindness is to do a Meta mediation in which we start by sending loving wishes to ourselves then to a loved one, then to an acquaintance or a group of people, then to someone we are struggling with. This practice reminds us that we give ourselves love and healing so that we are better able to offer love and healing to others. There is no healing unless we all heal together. We will then do a Meta mediation together.
