Description
LocalFiber (localfiber.org) enthusiastically announces that it is launching a new event, LocalFiber Downtown Discovery Day, on June 26, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Ithaca Commons in downtown Ithaca, NY. LocalFiber Downtown Discovery Day celebrates the community’s unique natural fiber producers. “The Finger Lakes area of New York State is home to a diverse and vibrant community of fiber farmers who produce beautiful local wool, mohair, alpaca, angora, and other types of natural fiber. With the 2022 spring shearing, everyone has fresh fiber and products available,” says Lisa Ferguson of Laughing Goat Fiber Farm, event organizer and President of LocalFiber. As part of LocalFiber’s Downtown Discovery Day, come meet your local fiber farmers — many of which also participated in the wildly successful LocalFiber Holiday Pop-Up Shop that operated this past winter on Seneca St in Ithaca — and learn where local fiber comes from and how to work with it. Fiber farmers and artisans from around the area will offer high-quality products and crafts for purchase. Some of the items include handspun and mill spun yarn, whole fleeces, spinning fibers/roving hand-dyed yarn and fiber, knitted and felted items, woven items, clothing, and other finished items. The celebration will also feature special guests, including alpaca, angora goats, and sheep. Plus, fiber demonstrations, musical guests, and more will be part of the all-day, family-friendly event! LocalFiber was created to bring together the diverse community of small-flock fiber producers and fiber artists of the Finger Lakes Region to strengthen the community, share knowledge, and educate the public about locally sourced fiber. LocalFiber hosts sales, marketing, and networking opportunities and connects fiber farmers and producers in the Finger Lakes and Central New York State area to each other and new markets. Collaboratively, they are working to rebuild a vibrant, ethical, sustainable regional fiber and textile economy. Join the movement to help rebuild this valuable, local, renewable resource. This program was made possible in part by a grant from the Tompkins County Tourism Program. LocalFiber P.O.
