Description
The Fox River doesn't just slice through the heart of our communities. It is the heart of our communities. Join film maker Dan Larson as he explores the past, present, and future of a waterway that dominates Northeastern Wisconsin in this new, feature-length, documentary. The Power of the River takes viewers on a historical journey that begins with the melting of the last glacier and ends with a group of energetic kayakers transiting the De Pere lock. The Fox River is part of a 12,000-year-old route that leads to the Mississippi River and Gulf of Mexico. But the lower Fox, stretching from Lake Winnebago to Green Bay, is unique. Dropping 6 feet a mile over its 39 mile course, the Lower Fox River has a power all its own. Not just mechanical power. Not just electrical power. It has a power to attract people and to build communities. No other river region in Wisconsin has so many cities so close together. And yet is also attracts fish and wildlife along its turbulent course, even more so because of a recently completed one-billion-dollar cleanup that has done much to return this treasured resource closer to its former splendor. Dan explores it all in The Power of the River. Proceeds from this premier will support Hearthstone Historic House Museum. Hearthstone - which was built by visionary Henry Rogers in 1882 - has its own important connection to the river. Rogers not only helped found the paper industry along its banks, he used the mechanical power of the falling Fox to make Hearthstone the first residence any where in the world to utilize hydroelectricity and an Edison system for lighting. This makes Hearthstone, which is marking its 140th anniversary this year, the "Birthplace of Green Energy." This premier is part of a week of activities to celebrate the unveiling of this documentary. This includes media appearances and, in addition to the premier supporting Hearthstone, a De Pere premier to be held on August 23rd at 7pm at the De Pere Cinema. Proceeds of this premier will support the De Pere Historical Society. Photo credit: MBPhotography (c) All rights reserved.
