Description

The AZTIFC seeks to build resilient faith-based organizations in order to facilitate sensitive care, training, resource sharing, advocacy, and social movement; Not compromising our own faith traditions, but multiplying collaboration for the greater good of Tucson and the surrounding area. These meetings are LIVE networking, training, and/or discussion meeting - we would love for you to join us! Typically we meet monthly on the 3rd Thursday of the month from 11AM-1PM. The meetings will be hosted at Hope City Church and free lunch for those attending live is included and provided by Pantano Christian Church. (A monthly invitation will be posted). This month: Substance Abuse, Trauma, and You Presenter - Officer Jaime Burnett, Substance Use Resource Team, Tucson Police Department The goal of this presentation is to challenge what you think you know about drug use and how you and your organization or faith community can make a difference. We will look at the origins of the opioid epidemic and briefly explore some of the science behind substance use disorders and the addictive nature of opioids. We will talk about the stigma of drug use and how trauma factors contribute to a person’s likelihood of abusing, and/or continuing to abuse drugs. We will also talk about fentanyl, its many forms, and how easy access to it continues to fuel this deadly epidemic. We’ll also talk about Narcan, one of our best tools for saving a life during an opioid overdose. Most importantly, we’ll talk about what each one of us can do to make an impact. Our faith & education communities, neighborhoods, businesses, and organizations are all exhausted from dealing with the effects of the latest surge of COVID. Join us as we gather together to not only see where we are at with our own self-care, but to share ideas on how we can multiply our care for our congregations, organizations, and those we serve. I hope that you will join us!
