WEST ALLIS, WI — A 4-year-old boy is dead and a 27-year-old Greenfield man is in police custody after a crash Wednesday that police suspect to be caused by alcohol and speed, according to a news release from the West Allis Police Department. The crash happened near State Highway 100 and National Avenue in West Allis around 8:45 p.m. A vehicle driving south on 108th was speeding and rear-ended another vehicle that was headed in the same direction, police said. The vehicle that was hit was carrying a 50-year-old woman, a 46-year-old woman, and a 4-year-old boy, all from Milwaukee, police said. All were brought to the hospital for serious injuries, police said. The child died later at Children's Hospital, according to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner. An autopsy on the boy was scheduled for Thursday, the medical examiner said. The man driving the vehicle that rear-ended the other vehicle is under arrest for operating while intoxicated, and an investigation continues, police said. He was treated at a hospital for his injuries after the crash, according to police. The case will later be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney.
