POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ — The Point Pleasant Beach School District is offering free summer academic programs for high school students. The programs are scheduled to be held in August. Students can be signed up for the programs online at this form. All sessions are free and will be held at Point Pleasant Beach High School. The programs are as follows: ALGEBRA I BOOTCAMP: Aug. 1-26, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, 10 a.m.-noon For: Incoming Algebra I StudentsInstructor: Mrs. Pierce Get ready for Algebra I! This course will review operations with integers, combining like terms, solving equations, ratios, solving proportions, the coordinate plane, plotting points, functions, and independent and dependent variables. ALGEBRA II BOOTCAMP: Aug. 1-26, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, 12:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. For: Incoming Algebra II StudentsInstructor: Mrs. Pierce Get ready for Algebra 2! This course will review operations with polynomials, factoring polynomials, rules of exponents, definition of function, evaluating functions, graphing linear & quadratic functions. SPANISH BOOTCAMP: Aug. 9-11, 16-18, 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m. For: Incoming 9th Grade and 10th Grade Spanish StudentsInstructor: Mrs. Bianchi Spanish Summer Camps for incoming Grade 9 and Grade 10 students, where students are in class for grammar and conversation during the morning sessions, then have Spanish immersion games and activities. The camp will run Tuesday-Thursday. STUDY SKILLS SESSIONS: Aug. 15-18, 22-25, 12:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m.For: All Grade 9-12 StudentsInstructor: Ms. Dalton This program will teach students various ways to take notes, and how to study from those notes. Students will be taught the basics of how to keep contact with teachers (i.e., how to properly email a teacher), and the importance of keeping a planner (either online or a hard copy). Students will be instructed on how to organize their notebooks and their online files. Students will be taught how to create a student resume and portfolio to compile throughout their high school career. TECH BASICS BOOTCAMP: Aug. 15-18, 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. For: All Grade 9-12 StudentsInstructor: Ms. Dalton Students will be able to format documents into MLA format. Basic word processing and formatting shortcuts will be taught. Students will be instructed on how to properly adjust margins, columns, tables, etc. in Google docs and Word documents. They will be taught the difference between MLA and APA formatting. Students will be instructed on how to properly format other significant documents such as a science lab report. Students will be shown how to design and format Google slides and PowerPoint presentations. Students will be taught the basics of iMovie and how to design a presentation using this format. SUMMER READING WORKSHOP: Aug. 22-25, 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m. For: All Grade 9-12 StudentsInstructor: Ms. Dalton Students will be able to complete the summer reading assessment with the guidance of an English teacher to help with any formatting, content, or project questions. Each day will focus on a slide from the project. Students can also come in and simply work independently to complete the assignment for pacing purposes.
