Free Hardware Supplies For Newark Dads At Giveaway Event

United Community Corporation is inviting fathers, grandfathers, step-dads, uncles, and any other father figure to the West Side Park Football Field in Newark on Saturday, June 18 for its Father's Day Distribution from noon to 2 p.m. While the event will put an emphasis on fathers and father figures, all families and individuals are invited to attend the free distribution, which will feature free groceries, care packages, resources, and special gifts dedicated to fathers. The event is sponsored by Amerigroup. "The purpose of this event is to give back to fathers and father figures for all of their contributions," UCC 21st Century Program Director Christian Marsette said. "Sometimes fathers don't get the appreciation that they deserve. Father figures are extremely important and we want to honor them as well. Not everyone is a father but they play that role in somebody's life. That is what this event is for. We want to give out resources that can specifically help fathers and father figures." Like in previous years, UCC providing razors, ties, and care packages will be given out, but this year's event will be highlighted by the distribution of free hardware equipment including tools, batteries, flashlights, safety gear, and other gadgets. Beauty For Ashes donated Father's Day Gift baskets that will be given out. "We wanted to change things up this year," Marsette said. "We feel like hardware supplies may help more bring out fathers that may not have come to this event in the past. Hardware supplies are expensive and hard to get. Some of our fathers may need it, we want to be able to provide this for them." This event was made possible thanks to support from Amerigroup, Safelink, Community FoodBank of New Jersey, National Career Institute, Beauty For Ashes, East Orange Family Success Center, and FELLAS.
