POSITION SUMMARY Please apply directly at Under direction from the Principal Preparator, Mountmaker and other full time staff, performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties in the preparation of exhibits. The On-call Mountaker will design and fabricate mounts for display and storage of art objects; assist in the installation, deinstallation and storage of art.  An On-call Mountmaker provides assistance to the Preparation department during periods of peak workload or on special projects. He/she must be willing to work on temporary assignments varying in the number of hours and days. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Fabricates mounts for the display and storage of art objects utilizing ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastic, woven materials, paper, wood and/or paint; ensures that the mounts are unobtrusive and protect the object from damage owing to environmental forces, particularly earth MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • Completion of high school with additional course work or training in one or more of the following areas: metalworking, jewelry, casting/model making, or industrial arts. • Skill in: the use and care of the usual hand and power tools and in the use and application of a variety of materials; the fabrication of mounts for the display and storage of art objects of varying size, structure and material. • Ability to lift and move heavy objects up to 50 lbs.; to physically handle delicate and  valuable works of art with extreme care. • Ability to: problem solve and function efficiently under pressure with conflicting demands; work from sketches and follow oral descriptions or instructions; successfully articulate mountmaking concepts to coworkers. WORKING CONDITIONS Preparators’ Shop. Physical agility, good vision and manual dexterity required to fabricate mounts, move art and operate tools/equipment. Also involves medium to heavy work requiring lifting, carrying and moving materials, tools and equipment, and finished exhibit and display fixtures and furniture. Exposure to chemicals, fumes, heat, dust and toxins. Required to wear safety glasses and mask when necessary for safety. All museum team members must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment (to be fully vaccinated, 14 days must have passed since the final dose of a two-shot vaccine, or a single dose of a one-shot vaccine was received) and provide proof, absent qualifying exemptions in accordance with applicable laws. Individuals receiving a conditional offer of employment from the museum will be provided a copy of the vaccination policy.
