LAKEWOOD, NJ — Authorities seized 900 wax folds of heroin, plus cocaine, a handgun and more than $44,000 in cash and arrested a Lakewood man as part of a drug distribution investigation, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said Wednesday. Shamar S. Kerr, 32, of Lakewood, was arrested June 8 after authorities saw him conducting a drug transaction outside the place where he works, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said. The multi-agency investigation identified a home Kerr was using to store and distribute heroin, fentanyl and cocaine, and the investigation led to surveillance of Kerr's job, Billhimer said. Detectives saw Kerr meet with Anthony Connors, 36, of South Toms River, outside Kerr's job, and Kerr was then seen leaving work on foot, Billhimer said. Lakewood police approached him to arrest him but Kerr took off, but was ultimately caught and arrested, he said. Authorities found 900 wax folds of heroin/fentanyl in Kerr's possession and a search of his home turned up about 40 grams of crack cocaine, a loaded .40-caliber handgun, and approximately $44,300in cash, Billhimer said. Kerr has been charged distribution of less than one-half ounce of heroin; possession of more than one-half ounce but less than 5 ounces of heroin with intent to distribute; possession of more than one-half ounce but less than 5 ounces of crack cocaine with intent to distribute; possession of heroin; possession of crack cocaine; possession of drug paraphernalia; unlawful possession of a weapon, specifically a handgun; unlawful possession of a weapon, specifically a knife; possession of a weapon during a controlled dangerous substance offense; certain person not to possess a firearm; possession of a prohibited weapon; aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer; resisting arrest and financial facilitation of criminal activity, Billhimer said. Kerr is being held at the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing. Patch has requested information on what led to the aggravated assault charge. Connors was arrested and charged with possession of heroin and wandering in a public place to obtain or distribute controlled dangerous substances. He was released on a summons pending a court appearance. The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Narcotics Strike Force and Asset Forfeiture Unit, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration — High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas Monmouth/Ocean Group 5, Lakewood Township Police Department Street Crimes Unit, Patrol Division, Special Response Unit, and K-9 Unit investigated.
