Ridgefield Police: Phone Calls Are Fake

RIDGEFIELD, CT — Ridgefield police are reminding residents that any donations solicited via telephone to benefit local police are likely scams. That's because police union fundraisers and other endeavors are done via mailers, not phone calls. "The Ridgefield Police would like to remind everyone that the Ridgefield Police Union and (PBA) Police Benevolent Association do not solicit any funds via telephone," reads a notice posted Tuesday on the Ridgefield Police Department's Facebook site. The Ridgefield department said the union fundraiser gets mailed out in July and the PBA letter gets mailed out in October. "If you receive any phone calls asking for donations, it's not from us," police said in the statement.
