NORWALK, CT — Mayor Harry Rilling said Strawberry Hill Avenue reopened Thursday morning after the rupture of a sanitary sewer closed down the road Wednesday night. In a news release, Rilling said the road reopened between King Street and County Street around 5 a.m. after repairs were made to a pipe. "We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused anyone," Rilling said in a news release. "I want to thank the Department of Public Works, Water Pollution Control Authority (WPCA), and Veolia (WPCA's contract operator) who worked diligently and swiftly to repair the sanitary sewer since [Wednesday] afternoon. They kept us on track and we greatly appreciate their efforts." No issues were reported at the Westport Avenue pump station, which has now been placed back into service, Rilling said. Rilling also noted the roadway milling and paving in the affected section of Strawberry Hill Avenue will be done over the next few weeks to allow time for the material to settle before the Department of Public Works completes the permanent roadway restoration process.
