Council declares Sunday, June 19 Juneteenth The proclamation recognizes June 19, 2022 as Juneteenth in the City of Minnetonka. The date marks the time that freedom became a reality for Black people in Texas, more than two years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. The council action urges all citizens to become more aware of the significance of this celebration in African American history and continue to work toward racial equity and realization of the full promise of emancipation. LGBTQ+ Pride Month Proclamation The month of June is celebrated as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ+) Pride Month. It commemorates the 1969 Stonewall Riots and the first Pride march in New York City in June 1970. The proclamation calls upon the community to work together to promote equal rights and eliminate prejudice everywhere it exists. Council reviews 2022 Minnetonka Community Survey The council voted to accept the results of the city's annual community survey. Conducted by the Morris Leatherman Co., the telephone survey measures residents' satisfaction on a variety of topics from quality of life to city services. The results help inform strategic planning and budgeting decisions. Council accepts 2021 annual financial report and related audit The audit firm BerganKDV issued a clean opinion on city's 2021 financial statement with no audit findings. This work provides an independent review of the city's finances. It also helps the city maintain its AAA credit rating. Sustainability Commission appointment The city council reappointed Justin Anderson to serve an additional two-year term on the Sustainability Commission. Anderson is one of two young adult members on the commission. The recruitment process for the remaining open position is underway. Council declares July Monarch and Pollinator Awareness Month The proclamation recognizes the important role animal pollinators and monarch butterflies play in our diverse ecosystem and the threats they face from habitat loss, climate change and increased chemical use.
