STERLING HEIGHTS, MI — A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday morning in Sterling Heights after a pickup truck ran a red light and struck him, police said. Police said a man was driving a 2022 Dodge Ram Pickup west on Metro Parkway at 12:50 a.m. when he disregarded a red traffic signal and struck a 2016 Yahama motorcycle that was driving north on Van Dyke Avenue. The 34-year-old Chesterfield Township man waited at the crash scene and cooperated with officials while the motorcycle driver was rushed to Troy Beaumont Hospital, where the 29-year-old Sterling Heights man later died, police said. Officials closed the intersection for about four hours while police investigated the crash. Officials do not believe at this time that alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash. Anyone with information about the crash was asked to call Sterling Heights Police's Traffic Safety Bureau at (586) 446-2920.
