UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Elizabeth Warren has her eyes on the Upper West Side. The former presidential candidate and current United States senator made an endorsement Tuesday for the newly drawn New York-12 congressional district — which includes the Upper West Side and Upper East Side. Warren is endorsing longtime Upper West Side representative Jerry Nadler. "I'm proud to endorse Jerry Nadler for re-election in New York 12," Warren wrote on Twitter. "When Manhattanites need a champion — someone to defend their reproductive rights, fight back against Republican bullies in Washington, and protect our kids from gun violence — they know they can depend on Jerry." Nadler, who has held a seat in Congress since 1992, is going up against longtime ally Rep. Carolyn Maloney. Both head major committees, with Nadler leading the House Judiciary Committee and Maloney the House Oversight Committee. Nadler's longtime seat in District 10 was shifted in the recent redistricting from his Upper West Side home to Lower Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn. Nadler tweeted that he was "thrilled" to have the endorsement of Warren. "From Roosevelt Island to Chelsea and everywhere in between, I'm committed to fighting for you in New York-12," Nadler wrote. "So proud to have Senator Warren on my team." The primary election is set for Aug. 23.
