ALAMEDA, CA — Within minutes of a theft at a Southshore Center store on Monday, a vehicle packed with stolen merchandise was stopped and three people arrested, according to the Alameda Police Department.
A Berkeley woman and two men from Oakland were taken into custody.
The theft was reported at 10:20 a.m. by an employee. The caller gave the dispatcher a detailed description of the group's vehicle and direction of travel.
A short time later, deputies from the Alameda County Sheriff's Office stopped a vehicle matching the description. During the stop, the deputies and Alameda Police officers recovered nearly $3,000 worth of merchandise.
"We would like to applaud the employee for immediately contacting APD to report the theft," APD said in a social media post. "Their prompt action, combined with the description they provided, helped APD and ACSO quickly locate and recover the merchandise."
Alameda Police Officers have increased patrols around business districts in an effort to curb retail thefts.
