POSITION SUMMARY PLEASE APPLY DIRECTLY Reporting to the Director of Facilities and Operations (Director), performs a variety of work in the maintenance and repair of the museum facility. Maintains and repairs facility wall surfaces; assembles and installs furniture, fixtures, and equipment; repairs/replaces/restores flooring and floor trim; repairs drywall; applies paint, high-end faux finishes, and a variety of wall coatings; performs carpentry and other upgrades necessary to insure optimal appearance and maximum functionality of the facility and equipment. The Facilities Maintenance Coordinator regularly engages with staff, vendors, and colleagues in a personable and respectful manner. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Performs a variety of skilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of the facility including painting, carpentry, and flooring repair/maintenance. Ensures the regular upkeep of wall surfaces (sheet rock, wallpaper, cinderblock, tile, woodwork, etc.) and flooring (stone, carpet, engineered wood, tile, concrete, vinyl, etc.) in accordance with applicable safety regulations. Coordinates with Director to prioritize and schedule maintenance projects. Generates and manages weekly task list with guidance from Director. Processes maintenance related work orders and maintains a quarterly schedule of planned preventive maintenance projects in the location designated by the Director. Fabricates/assembles/installs/repairs furniture, fixtures and equipment in offices and other spaces. Installs promotional exhibition posters, artwork, pictures, signs and whiteboards in select spaces as directed. Oversees staff and contractors involved in a variety of skilled carpentry, flooring, painting, and other related duties in the repair and maintenance of the museum facility. Coordinates necessary office modifications and installation of office furniture and equipment. Operates, maintains, purchases and repairs a variety of tools and equipment related to the duties assigned. Manages warehouse inventory and access. Loads, unloads, and transports a variety of FF&E, publications, files, etc. to and from the museum’s offsite storage facility as required. Maintains inventory of items stored in warehouse. Manages and coordinates routine inspections, including pest inspections, eyewash station inspection and maintenance, and quarterly facility inspections. Acts as contact person for all office and facility maintenance needs outside of the responsibilities of the stationary engineering team. Coordinates with outside vendors, regulatory agencies, contractors, etc. Assists with addressing storage needs, ensuring best practices and regulations. Assists with addressing facilities safety issues, fixing, reporting up, etc. Performs other related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in facilities maintenance and repair. Must possess and maintain a valid CA driver license. Ability to obtain and maintain a forklift certification. Demonstrated ability to successfully coordinate, track, and execute facility maintenance projects while delivering a high-quality customer service experience. Familiarity with CalOSHA regulations that apply to museum work processes. Familiarity with hazardous material storage and disposal. Familiarity in the use of all power or hand tools commonly used in the trades. Knowledge of application of paints, wall coatings, sealants, polishes, brushes, rollers, and paint spray devices used to apply material to a variety of surfaces. Knowledge of health and safety practices including but not limited to, respiratory protection, hazardous materials handling, hearing conservation, and accessible work environments. Knowledge of purchasing; general office procedures; safety requirements and controls or techniques to protect the museum’s collection during work. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office. Excellent organizational and planning skills; strong written and verbal communication skills; high level of maintenance, repair, and problem-solving skills. Ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships with a wide variety of people; and meet established deadlines. Ability to maintain departmental and state safety standards. Ability to walk, lift, bend, climb stairs, used ladders to access various areas of the museum and complete necessary maintenance. Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Possession of a current Forklift Certification. WORKING CONDITIONS Maintenance shop, museum’s art environments, office spaces, storages, and gallery spaces. Exposure to noises, chemicals, fumes, heat, dust, and toxins. Required to wear safety glasses and mask when necessary for safety. All museum team members must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment (to be fully vaccinated, 14 days must have passed since the final dose of a two-shot vaccine, or a single dose of a one-shot vaccine was received) and provide proof, absent qualifying exemptions in accordance with applicable laws. Individuals receiving a conditional offer of employment from the museum will be provided a copy of the vaccination policy.
