Description
Like the people in the famous scene from the Life of Brian, we creative types love to think of ourselves as individuals, but in reality we’re part of a crowd. It’s a truism that inspiration often strikes when disparate ideas, influences and materials are put together in novel combinations. Frans Johansson has written an excellent book, The Medici Effect, based on this idea: "when you step into an intersection of fields, disciplines, or cultures, you can combine existing concepts into a large number of extraordinary new ideas." It may seem like a no brainer, but a true brainstorm is not possible without collaboration. Collaboration provides a safety net; it helps us catapult eachothers thinking and develop ideas that may seem crazy if it were just you at first. Creatives always have seasons of rut where that creative spark is harder, if not altogether impossible to access. I have found breaking routine is a good way to jolt the operating systems but moreover the sure fire kindling to get back to your tools and craft is the collaboration. This is no different then working around others at a coffee shop or library as opposed to home going at it all yourself. We need to admit that as a true creative or artist when we are stagnate this can have diabolical effects on our life's in many ways. This comes to us from a book called ‘The Art Spirit‘ by Robert Henri. ‘The work of the art student is no light matter. Few have the courage and stamina to see it through. You have to make up your mind to be alone in many ways. We like sympathy and we like to be in company. It is easier than going it alone. But alone one gets acquainted with himself, grows up and on, not stopping with the crowd. It costs to do this. If you succeed somewhat you may have to pay for it as well as enjoy it all your life.’ ‘If you do what you believe in and have a failure that’s one thing. You can still live with yourself. But if you don’t, it’s like dying twice. It’s very very painful.’ Here is what I aim to extend to like minded or curious people of Craigslist. If you are an artist and have found yourself unable to just brainstorm, create, share, critique, collaborate or just hangout with someone else hungry to express themselves then hit me up. If you need a photographer, want to learn photography or are a photographer yourself and you're intrigued to branch out with me let's shoot the breeze. If you are someone in need of content, want to hire a professional photographer for anything, whether that's headshots for a linkdin, dating profile, family, products, promotion, products, business, restaurant, fine art concept, loved one, an idea you've had photographically, lifestyle, brand, social media, project, architecture, fitness, fashion, pets, events, community you name it, please I am indeed available for hire in that regard. I would love to discuss whether we are a good fit. I'll keep this short and to the point, Eugene is a challenging for many reasons and It's my experience that many talented artists and creatives have found themselves without someone to ''geek-out'' with of similar interests. What's great about photography is it can cross the lines of any genre and class of artist, documenting process, profile and craft is something I am profoundly versed to impart through my images. If there's an idea you have or a trade, maybe you just want to get coffee and all of this could offer a breath of fresh air, then drop me a line. I look forward to seeing where this CL post might lead and it is my hope this finds you eager to connect in some facet as well. Many blessings, continued success and stay hungry. -Moose Jack Austin
