This reading will celebrate powerful writing by incarcerated individuals, and will be an opportunity to learn about the creative writing and interdisciplinary work being done by Tulsa-based Poetic Justice and the Minnesota Prison Writing Workshop (MPWW). Founding and artistic directors Ellen Stackable (Poetic Justice), and Jennifer Bowen (MPWW), will discuss the missions of the organizations that they lead. Poetic Justice is committed to offering restorative writing and creative arts programs to individuals who are incarcerated in women’s prisons and jails in Oklahoma. The Minnesota Prison Writing Workshop (MPWW), extends Minnesota’s vibrant literary community to people who are incarcerated through high-quality creative writing classes, a one-to-one mail mentor program, and related programming in Minnesota and other states. This public reading and discussion will be a celebration of student work and an opportunity to explore the intersections of creative writing and social justice. The event will be emceed by Tulsa Artist Fellow, Kathryn Savage, the organizer of Poetic Justice, Tulsa: A Collaborative Reading with Ellen Stackable, Jennifer Bowen, Tulsa Artist Fellows, and community friends. THURSDAY, JUNE 23 6:00 - 8:00 PM @ TULSA ARTIST FELLOWSHIP FLAGSHIP 112 N. Boston Ave (located behind Basque restaurant), Tulsa, OK 74103 TULSA ARTIST FELLOWSHIP VISITOR EXPERIENCE: Tulsa Artist Fellowship strives to provide a welcoming and accessible experience. Our public programming is free, documented, and archived. Mask wearing is not required in program common spaces but strongly recommended if an individual has personal/household health risks to consider, if an individual becomes unwell, or when an individual feels most comfortable wearing a mask. Individuals that are unvaccinated or only have one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine are required to wear a mask at all times in TAF program spaces and keep 6 feet apart from others. All individuals in Tulsa Artist Fellowship spaces should always cover coughs and sneezes, monitor their health daily, and wash hands often. Please do not attend in-person Tulsa Artist Fellowship events if you have recently tested positive for COVID-19, if you have had close contact with anyone who is confirmed or suspected of having COVID-19, and/or you are feeling unwell. Program format and protocols could shift if community health concerns become elevated. Staff are deeply appreciative for everyone’s cooperation in upholding these visitor guidelines to keep our artistic community healthy and vibrant. Archer Studios, Cameron Studios, and Flagship accommodate wheelchairs and strollers. Variable seating is provided in addition to area for distanced standing and wheelchairs. Family scale private washrooms are available, designed to support visitors with disabilities and caregivers who need access to increased square footage and changing tables. The Archer Studios elevator is located at the main entrance on Martin Luther King Blvd. Street side parking is available using the Park Mobile App and is free after 5pm and all day Saturday-Sunday.
