Description

This workshop consists of a three-part activity where the students will be taught how to recycle their garments with three fun upcycling techniques that don’t require machine sewing. Each student will be given an Upcycling package with everything they need to participate, except for the clothes to recycle. Each student needs to bring at least three damaged, unwanted, or old clothes to give new life to them, and at least one of them needs to have cotton on their composition. Timeline: First Part – Creative Reconstruction: The students will cut specific seams of the garments and reconstruct them on their bodies with safety pins and quick hand stitches, to create a new garment shape. Break – 15 minSecond Part – Paint Attack (Option A): The students will cut and create a shape with recycled cork board to make a stamp that they will use to paint the garments. Sharing the stamps with the other students is encouraged.Second Part – Paint Attack (Option B): The students will have to edit their garments with paint. They can use an object around them as a stamp or paint an idea with brushes.Break – 15 minThird Part – Bleaching Chaos: The students will be given brushes, spray bottles and stencils to work with bleach. They will be able to choose one of these tools or mix and match them to create a composition on their cotton garment. After the bleaching session, the garment must be washed by hand with soap or detergent.
