MANATEE COUNTY, FL — A small plane crash is under investigation in Manatee County. According to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, a single-engine plane crashed on Triangle Ranch in Myakka City on Monday night. Authorities said someone found the plane upside down in the Myakka River around noon Tuesday and called the sheriff's office. Deputies along with Manatee Search and Rescue, East Manatee Fire Rescue and the Sarasota Air Unit searched for the pilot part of the day. However, authorities said they soon learned that after the crash, the pilot was able to get home and notify the National Transportation Safety Board. "The pilot was able to climb out and is okay. The investigation continues and no other details are available at this time," the sheriff's office said in a statement. It was not immediately clear what caused the plane to crash in the first place. According to records from the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane's owner is from Sarasota. He was flying a Grumman American AA-5 prior to the crash.
