WESTPORT, CT — A 19-year-old Millville, New Jersey, man was arrested on forgery and larceny charges, after Westport police said he cashed a check stolen from a mailbox in Westport. Donnell Jackson was arrested on a warrant on June 8 and charged with second-degree forgery, third-degree larceny, and fraudulent use of an ATM. According to Westport police, the case began in January, when a local resident reported a larceny. "The complainant said that she placed a check in a post office mailbox and sometime after doing so the check was stolen," Westport police said. "The name of the payee was changed to Donnell Jackson and the amount was also altered. The complainant confirmed that she never wrote a check to anyone by that name and is not familiar with the individual." Police did not disclose the amount of money that was stolen, but the check was deposited at a Bank of America in Iselin, NJ, belonging to Jackson. Additionally, other evidence was also collected that tied Jackson to the crime, police said, but they did not elaborate. Jackson was released after posting bond on bail of $25,000, and he is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Sept. 7.
