MILWAUKEE, WI — The City of Milwaukee Health Department and Milwaukee County Office of Emergency Management have issued a heat advisory Tuesday and Wednesday. Heat index values between 100 to 105 degrees are expected Tuesday after a round of storms, national forecasters said. The health department recommended people to take the following precautions to avoid heat-related illness or death. Try to spend part of the day in air-conditioned spaces such as shopping malls, movie theaters or librariesNever leave children or pets in a parked car, as temperatures can become life-threatening within minutesWear light and loose-fitting clothingTake cool baths or showers and use wet towels to cool downDrink plenty of water throughout the day regardless of thirstCheck in on those who are at-risk, and remind others to drink waterBe aware of heat-related illness symptomsHeat exhaustion symptoms include heavy sweating, paleness, muscle cramps, tiredness, weakness, dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting or faintingHeat stroke symptoms include extremely high body temperature, hot and dry skin (no sweating), rapid pulse, throbbing headache, dizziness, nausea, confusion, or unconsciousnessMilwaukee offers more than 30 public spaces for people who need a place to cool off.
