Description
TACOMA, WA — The Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County is calling on the community for support as its veterinarians take emergency care of a dog battling for her life.
Last Thursday, a good Samaritan in Fife discovered a neglected 4-year-old bull terrier and brought her to the Humane Society for emergency treatment, the shelter said. The terrier, who caretakers have now named Emmi, is severely emaciated and photos of the struggling pup show that almost all of her bones can be seen through her skin.
Emmi is also struggling with an open sore that needs near-constant cleaning to prevent infection, the Humane Society said.
Emmi has been given an IV to help give her some much-needed medication and nutrition, but she still needs significant support if she's going to pull through. The Humane Society has put out a call for donations as doctors try to support Emmi and nurse her back to health.
If donations aren't feasible right now, the Humane Society says community members can also help by adopting a pooch— thus freeing up time and space to care for Emmi. The Humane Society says its shelter currently has around 50 healthy dogs up for adoption who are ready and willing to find their new forever homes.
