Here are the top stories in Denver today: Free transit in August may not be a done deal. RTD has applied for a grant to provide a zero-fare August, but is still waiting to hear from the office of Colorado Energy. The program recently passed by the state legislature, envisions free transit in the month of August, will cut ozone emissions in the regional transit district. (Denverite)Denver ties heat record set in 1994 and 2006. Officially, Denver hit 99 degrees on Monday, which ties the previous record set back in 1994 and 2006. (9News)Why are gas prices so high? Supply is reduced and demand is high. These simple economic principals are contributing to rising prices at the pump. This coupled with increased crude oil prices, probably means that gas prices will continue to rise. (FOX31)Union says that Starbucks is "banking on terror-effect to scare workers away from unionizing." As more stores move to organize, the coffee chain has been pushing back by filing complaints against workers leading union efforts in their stores. (CO Sun)Does Wyoming really hate Colorado drivers? Maybe it's people headed north for the annual trek to buy banned fireworks, but there's more to Wyoming's dislike of how Coloradoans drive when they visit the cowboy state.
