Description

Press release from the City of Ames: June 10, 2022 Reconstruction of Ontario Street from North Dakota to Woodstock avenues will begin Wednesday, June 15, weather permitting. This reconstruction project will address existing pavement deficiencies, utility repair, and necessary improvements to pedestrian facilities that do not meet the American with Disabilities Act (ADA). The City has contracted with Con-Struct Inc. to complete this project, which will begin with placement of temporary pavement on the southeast corner of the intersection of North Dakota Avenue and Ontario Street. This will require the closure of the northbound right turn lane on North Dakota Avenue to Ontario Street and is expected to be complete within three to four days. Beginning Monday, June 20, traffic will be shifted to head-to-head traffic with one lane in each direction on the south lanes of Ontario Street from Woodstock to Delaware avenues. The two north lanes of Ontario Street will be closed to begin utility repair and pavement replacement work. During this stage of the project, the north lanes at the intersection of North Dakota Avenue and Ontario Street will also be closed. Detour signs will be in place to direct traffic around the closure to go north or south of Ontario at North Dakota. This stage of the project is expected to take six to eight weeks to complete. Future stages of the project will include reconstruction of North Dakota Avenue from Ontario Street to the Union Pacific railroad tracks. All are encouraged to take note of this construction activity and allow extra travel time as delays may occur. As always, caution should be exercised when traveling through the construction area. For safety reasons, please keep children and pets away from the construction zone. For more information, contact Hafiz Ibrahim, Civil Engineer, at [email protected] or 515.239.5245.
