CAROL STREAM, IL — A Wheaton man has been accused of holding a person and gunpoint and forcing them to withdraw money from an ATM. Levern Danley, 19, of the 600 block of East Indiana Street, was charged with armed robbery with a firearm in connection with the June 4 incident. He is currently being held in DuPage County Jail on $500,000 bond. Police say Danley approached two people outside the Gundersen apartment complex in Carol Stream and asked one of the individuals for a ride to a store in Wheaton. Danley is accused of pulling a gun out and pointing it to the driver, keeping his finger on the trigger. According to police, Danley demanded that the driver go to an ATM in Wheaton and withdraw $400. Danley is further accused of telling the driver to return to the ATM and get out more money. Police say the driver complied and gave Danley $100. Danley is then accused of forcing the driver to head back to the store, with the intent of withdrawing additional cash, but the store was no longer open. Police say Danley then fled on foot. Danley was taken into custody June 10, following an investigation, "Crimes such as alleged in this case traumatize not only the victim, but leave the entire community on edge, worried for their personal safety," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement. He added, "In DuPage County, we will not tolerate the type of brazen behavior alleged against Mr. Danley." Danley is set to appear in court June 27.
