EDINA, MN — The Edina Public Schools board recently appointed one of its former members to fill a short-term vacancy. David Goldstein returns to the board after serving from 2014-18. He was appointed by board members after they reviewed five applications, according to the district. Only two applicants had prior experience on the board, which current members set as a key qualification for the appointment. Wallen-Friedman stepped down from the board in May due to his impending move to Connecticut, the Sun Current reported. Members said they wanted to appoint a former member as it's the quickest way to fill the seat for a short period of time. As a former member, Goldstein will need less training than a new member, the board said. The newly elected member will replace Goldstein on the Edina Public Schools board and serve until December 2023, the end of Wallen-Friedman's term. Goldstein, an attorney, served as board treasurer and chair of the finance committee during his previous term. Goldstein will not be sworn in and seated until late June, due to a 30-day waiting period required by state law, according to the district.
