Person Evacuated In Elmhurst House Fire

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst firefighters responded to a house fire early Wednesday morning in the 100 block of East Marion Street after a passerby noticed it and called 911, the city said. Shortly before 4 a.m., firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof of the house, according to a city news release. A police officer safely evacuated the only person in the house, the city said. No injuries were reported. The city said the fire was put out in about an hour. It was reported as starting in the attic. The house was considered uninhabitable. Because of the location of the house, Robert Palmer Drive was closed in both directions between Schiller and York streets. Marion was closed in both directions between Arlington Avenue and Palmer. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the DuPage County Task Force. Damage estimates are unknown.
