AURORA, IL — Ten counts of felony charges have been brought against a 27-year-old Aurora man in connection to stolen vehicle and illegal gun possessions, according to the Kane County State's Attorney's Office.
Desean Thomas, of the 3000 block of Hillbrook Lane, was served a search warrant June 3 by Cook County Sheriff's police when officers found him to be in possession of a stolen car valued at more than $25,000, according to State's Attorney Jamie Moser. The attorney also alleges Thomas was illegally in possession of multiple guns since he did not have an Illinois Firearm Owners Identification card.
The Aurora man was charged with the following items:
Aggravated unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle valued at more than $25,000, Class 1 felonyPossession of a stolen motor vehicle, Class 2 felonyUnlawful use of a weapon – possession of a machine gun/automatic weapon, Class 2 felony3 counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon without a FOID, second or subsequent offense, Class 2 felony3 counts of unlawful use of a weapon, second or subsequent offense, Class 3 felonyPossession of burglary tools, Class 4 felony Kane County Judge Julia Yetter set the man's bail at $250,000, with 10 percent to apply for bond. If Thomas posts bond, he must prove the money is from a legitimate source and not proceeds of illegal activity, officials said. Yetter granted the caveat at the state's request, according to KCSAO.
As of Wednesday, Thomas remains in custody at the Kane County jail.
"My thanks to the Cook County Sheriff's Office and the Illinois Secretary of State Police regarding their thorough investigation of this matter," Mosser said in a statement. "Their work has made our community safer."
